A youth in state of spiritual trance, Sufi Poetry
The next two pages are of high visual aesthetics indicating a sustained and continued artistic enterprise. The page NCM.350 b) with full text in khatt i-nastaliq, is poetic and sufic in nature. It elaborates on ‘love’ as an emotion, a state of a spiritual trance. It explains poignantly that, when the feeling of love is not in my heart there is actually a state in which my being is non-existent. Love signifies every moment of my life, with no love in my heart amounts to no presence of me anymore. The day that I am not burning out of love, that day is not even considered of any significance and therefore not counted in my life time. Some distinct names, for example, Shaikh Esma’il Saysi and Shaikh Ebrahim, feature in the text, suggesting that they were eminent figures in context of the egalitarian sufi ideology that is expressed here.
