About Conservation
The LD Indology and Museum Conservation Laboratory
The Institute and Museum share a common conservation laboratory, which is situated in the basement of the main museum building. Fully equipped, the laboratory can handle a variety of works and processes. The primary focus remains on the conservation of works on paper. Many thousands of manuscripts from the collection have been treated here. The fume extractor, and other equipment allow for conservators to do in-depth processes where needed. Miniature paintings, drawings and books in the collection which need repairing or consolidation are carefully treated here.
Preliminary surface cleaning of stone sculptures and metal objects is also carried out here.
We look ahead to develop the laboratory so that it can cater to the conservation needs of the city and Gujarat state.

About Conservation
While talking about our Conservation Laboratory, the modest Conservation Laboratory of the Museum has a facility for the basic conservation of miniature paintings on paper. Preliminary surface cleaning of stone sculptures and metal objects is also carried out here.
It is important to conserve the precious art pieces of history and preserve them in the best possible way. Here, at the LDII conservation process is given the highest importance and is carried out with utmost care. We have our own In-house Conservation Laboratory which utilizes every possible step for repairing and restoration of fragile art objects of importance such as drawings, manuscripts, paintings and books from our various collections.
