Chaurpanchasika Verse 27
The gist of verse no. 27 directly refers to the poet's current personal circumstances and his concomitant emotions, which have been fully grasped by the painter. This painting has to be read from the right hand side where Bilhana seated with yogapatta signifying his focused attention, towards his beautiful dearest beloved, who is represented, seated next to him and turning her face towards him with a concerned look. In this last hour of his life he laments, that he is helpless because his mind has shifted its attention away from the Gods. The enclosed pavilion with a part of the empty bed placed amidst the background of red color conspicuously represents the venue of fulfilling love-passions unattainable from now onwards. Here, the inside enclosure and open outside space, function as specific symbols.
