The institute trains scholars in reading and editing manuscripts in ancient scripts like Brahmi, Sards, Grantha and Persian. Training is also imparted in the ways of restoration and preservation.
The institute guides students for doctoral and postdoctoral studies. In the last 54 years the Institution has been able to successfully guide as many as 56 students in their PhD research work. The in-house research scholars of the institute are continuously carrying out research in their respective fields, thus adding to the knowledge bank.

The Institute is already training scholars and personnel from other resource and preservation centers in the art and skill of reading and editing manuscripts in such different ancient scripts as Brahmi, Sarda, Grantha, M091 and Persian and also training them in the skill of preservation and restoration. It guides students for doctoral and postdoctoral studies. In the last 54 years the Institution has been able to guide successfully as many as 56 students in their Ph.D. research work. The in-house research scholars of the Institute are continuously provided all facilities for advancement of their studies.
