Gopi-Anand Collection of Bead work
Shri Mahesh Pandya, the fourth son of Dalpatbhai Pandya and his wife Gopiben, has been fond of collecting antiques, and who developed this passion through his early exposure in rural Gujarat. A textile engineer by profession, Maheshbhai developed a keen insight in decorative beadwork, antique coins and such other antique materials. He has been honoured thrice by Limca Books of records for his collection of highest number of postcards written to a single addressee dating from 1885 onwards. Shri Mahesh and Smt. Usha Pandya decided to donate their valuable collection of beadworks to L.D. Museum as part of his desire to nurture awareness among the common public regarding cultural heritage of rural Gujarat. The collection is named after his parents 'Gopi-Anand' Bead Work collection.
About the Collection:
The beadwork art of embroidery is mainly practiced in Saurashtra and Kutch region. It held a special place as a speciality for household decoration and marriage ceremonies. It is thus an embodiment of culture and history together.
