Baramasa Jetha (May-June)
The painting represents the month of Jetha or Jyestha (the period between May to June). The intensity of the summer which occurs in this month, is beautifully portrayed here.
Because of the scorching heat, lion and cobra keep on sleeping and the powerful animals become weak in this season. The artist chose to delineate elephant and bull in sleeping postures, who are also given a slimmer look to suggest that they have gone weak. In conclusion, the nāyikā communicates that elders recommend that one should not go out in this season.
