Portrait of Nobleman
Although this portrait in many ways resembles that of the upright representation of Aurangzeb (NCM 364), it is devoid of a halo around its head. Therefore, it is not expected to be the drawing of an emperor. The very upright figure is equipped with weapons, not only the ceremonial sword (as in case of a royal personage), but also a huge shield. He wears the customary costume of turban, jama, patka and paijama. The manner the colours have been introduced in rendering the turban, patka, shield, paijama and the shoes, implies that it is to be categorized as a painting and not a drawing.
