Game of hide and seek
It is among the principle events from childhood depicted in the Kalpasutra paintings.
The snake curled around the tree trunk is a rival god, who intended to kill the boy Mahavira. The villain arrived in disguise of one of his playmates. Mahavira had won the race to climb over the tree and as the winner he carries the disguised villain on his back. The latter exerted his strength to overpower Mahavira but could not succeed. Thus, several sequential episodes are juxtaposed as if taking place simultaneously, which is the characteristic of the pictorial representation.
