Rama takes leave of his Mother, Kaushalya, A folio from Ayodhya Kanda, Valmiki Ramayana Line
In this folio Kaushalya is delineated four times and Rama is depicted three times. In the pavilion at the right and in front of the house shrine, she performs the worship for Rama’s safety. In the next interior, Rama has arrived and his mother ties on him the band for protection from rakshasas (demons). In the open courtyard, Rama circumambulates her and seeks her permission to leave. He is depicted leaving near the gate at extreme left.
However, in between, the grief-stricken Kaushalya has fainted and is attended upon by her maids, an expressive focus of interest in the whole folio.
