Baramasa Margashirsh (November-December)
It is believed that Visṇu's component (Hari ansa) remains present in the incorporeal form during the month of Mārgaśirsa (Māragaśira of the verse). This season is full of flowers and joyous notes of swans fill the air. The last line consists of the refrain, the nāyikā's plea that the lover (husband) should not take the road (mārga) in this month (Māragaśira). The poet introduces the notion of double-meaning (double-entendre = yamaka) in the word mārga. The painter has drastically changed the pictorial structure. Now he delineates the architectural setting as a two storied house surmounted with a small domical tower (chhatra). What was an open terrace over a ground-floor level cabin is now the main first floor-level horizontal covered room, or space, in which the nāyaka and nāyikā are seated and conversing. The ground floor cabin, occupying lesser space, has significance as a yellow coloured area supporting the first floor which is filled with red colour. Once again the landscape elements in outdoor space have relevance to the poetry as well as the concerned season. Thus, the grove of trees, with the flowering banana plant depicted in the left side of the painting of Vaiśākha is re-introduced in this folio. And instead of swans, one peacock is delineated near, what is a schematic representation of, a pond.
