Shiva Parvati on Mountain Kailasa
It is a very striking drawing outlining the abode of Śiva and Pārvati on Kailāsa mountain, up in the Himalayas. The painter, obviously a native of the hills is so familiar with rock formation and the structure of the mountain ranges. The divine couple is seated on top of the cliDisplays under a cluster of trees. Just below is standing Śiva’s vehicle, the Nandi bull, whose outlines echo the contours of the cliDisplays. Still below a section of the river is delineated probably Gangā. Its flowing water is represented by diluted tones of black ink. At the same level are undulating hills with groves of vertical forms of pine trees, which rhyme with the rock formations. Within both the types of forms the tonal gradations of black ink play a conspicuous role.
