Krishna playing flute
Balagopala Stuti - It is a Sanskrit text of verses describing childhood episodes of Krishna probably composed by Bilvamangala in South India. Krishna lila episodes became quite popular in Gujarat during the Vaishnava movement of 15th and 16th century. During this period many paintings of Krishna were painted in the Balagopala Stuti folios by the Jaina artists of Gujarat.
This folio illustrates young Krishna playing flute standing on a small stool. Three cowherd boys are depicted standing in alidha posture adoring him, raising their right hand in mudra of appriciation. In their left hand they are carryigng sticks (crooked shaped).
