Ragamala, Raga Shri
Chaupai:
Śri Śri Rāga is majestic and royal in appearance, and one perceives his image upon listening to this Rāga. He spends the whole day in merriment and love; it is diDisplayicult to describe his secret pleasures inside the palace. An ascending string of tānas is poured forth from the musical instrument, the tamburā, as if the river Gangā had risen in a flood. Very clever in all rules and practices of music, he pleases himself and has control over his mind. Even the skilled ones cannot comprehend the mysteries of this Rāga; the outlines of the tānas can be shown or taught only by the sage Nārada. The notes SA, RI, GA and DHA are the components of this Rāga, the form of which is very pleasing and satisfying to kings.
Doha:
SA, RI, GA, DHA, NI is the pattern of movement of this Rāga, and its components vary according to the sentiments they carry. One comprehends these matters only in the company of Śri Rāga.
