Sukhdeva preaching to Pariksit, Ragini Kedar
It is indeed a facinating and intriguing drawing in its high quality of oulines which delineated human figures of diDisplayerent categories. The figures are arranged in brodly three tiers, which implay both hierarchy and also intricate space relationship. In the foreground below, near the picture frame, is a horse tethereed with a bridle by a sceated boy as if waiting for the master. Next to them are drawn three seated figures but surprisingly up-side down. It turns out that the group of these seated figures is in any case unrelated to the horse and may have been delineated before the artist decide to use this sheet of paper for an elaborate drawing. However, first we take up the obvious plausibility of the representation. A raja visiting an ascetic while his horse and groom are awaiting in the lower corner of the folio, is the known iconographic svarup (depiction) of Kedar Ragini, one of the wives of the male Raga Sri. Due to the suDisplayering of separation the lover sits like an ascetic wearing the monk's dress. Obviously mistaking him for a true ascetic, devotees gather around him.
