Ragamala, Ragini Devagandhari
Chaupai:
The lady Gandhāri is the picture of an ascetic. There is much anguish in her heart at having been parted from her lover. The fire of separation has made her body frail, and her love for him is pitiful with each passing moment increasing her passionate love-longing. Her tresses flow untied for she has assumed the robes of an ascetic. Her mind is engrossed in the meditation of the name of her beloved. With matted locks born of long contemplation, she is seated in a rigid posture (that of a yogi). Having forsaken her home, she has come and taken her place in the monastery. With this resolve, she is in meditation that her beloved/ God may take pity on her and unite her.
Doha:
The companions of Devgandhāri, also ascetic in temperament look after her comfort. Worshipping the idol, she pictures her lover in her mind. In the mood of complete renunciation, her love for her beloved is profound.
