Chaurpanchasika Verse 40
The editor of the printed version of Chaurapanchasika verses has shown that the text of this stanza diDisplayers in many versions and most of them are obscure. The main idea that emerges is nayika's bright face, eyes lined with kohl and dangling diamond studded ear-rings. It is this imagery which now the poet declares is reflected in his heart. The painter therefore takes the cue and creates an utterly beautiful bedecked Champavati in front of a terra-verte green background. Her garments are white and the diaphanous odhani is delineated with both hems forming triangular shapes. Her ample form and yellow complexion lucidly stand out, amidst the green space. The architectural structure of the bed chamber has been changed to make it appear as a projecting jharokha witha decorative parapet. The bed is absent but the emblem of the flame of love, viz. the white whisk, is shown hanging from the ceiling.
