Ganapati
This very impressive drawing of Ganapati, is at the same time quite incredibly graceful and lyrical, thanks to the extreme command that the artist has on the fluency and rhythmic quality of line. The configuration is an amazing likeble image of Ganesa. Presumably a preliminary drawing, however, as the artist proceeded, he became so involved with the sheer beauty of line that he introduced white colour for the correction of contour lines here and there. As a result a certain sense of volume of the figure is built up by means of a colour which is slightly lighter in tone than the creamy quality of the original background colour, so that the artist consciously decided to stop at this level. The observer becomes gradually conscious of the contrast between three dimensionally of the icon and the depth of the space. This drawing is a wonderful example of when to stop in the creative process as the pictorial form goes through several emergent stages.
