Krishna applying alta on Radha's feet
Radha seated on a throne like divan supported by a bolster and Krishna in a squatting position touching her feet, is a familiar iconographic ensemble in Indian Miniature paintings. Such a grouping represents Manini nayika, in which case she, who was eagerly awaiting his arrival is angry and her ego has been hurt because the nayaka has arrived very late. So he bends down and touches the nayikas feet, pleading for reconciliation.
