Laharu of Chamba
In Sarga 41 onwards of Kishkinda Kanda, Valmiki, described the search expeditions of the monkey armies in all the four directions including varied geographical regions. The present drawing is characteristic pictorialization of valmikis fantastic imagination by the artist Laharu. The monkeys are at the end of their tether as the phrase goes. They are exhausted and hungry, and land in a dark cave which is depicted in the lower section of the folio. There the monkey spotted an old women whose name was Svayamprabha. The monkeys then requested her to guide them to find the escape route and access to food, as she has embarked on ascetic practices.
