Ragini Gunakali
This is another painting based on the verse by Poet Sirdar (18the century Bhakti poet, who composed in Braja bhāsā). the painting is damaged at many places where the text is superscripted and also the mounting material covers the entire first line, hence it is very diDisplayicult to interpret the text cohesively. However, comprehending the gist, Guṇakali, Rāgini of Rāga Malkous is referred to as a virahini, patiently waiting under a Kadamb tree for her beloved to come. Portrayed as a lady in tears; she holds garlands for her beloved in her lotus bud like tender hands, which she has made from the flowers she picked up.
Guṇakali is a rare Rāga. It is usually performed in the first watch of the day in the morning, preferably in the month of autumn. It rekindles a feeling of sadness; melancholy and emptiness in the first stages of renunciation.
