Rasikapriya
The verse on the top this folio is no. 10 from chapter X of Rasikapriya in which Keshavadas explains how to deal with arrogance that may obstacle between the lover and his beloved and prevent them from consummating their love. In this particular folio the verse written on the top is addressed by a bosom (female) companion to the other, explaining how radha herself contrived to appease her lover Krsna. Radha teasingly/amusingly posed questions to him to explain how newly-wed couples drink the honey of each other's lips, make nail-marks and what is this called 'embrace'. The companion concludes her statement by observing that in this manner she herself concocted to bring rapprochment with her lover. In the painting under discussion, we observe that at the distant plane, krsna is seated in a pavilion and the female messenger is conveying to him something with her hand gestures. This section may be understood in terms of the female attendant communicating Radha's message to Krsna.
