Bihari Satsai
In this verse there are no 'figures of speech' excepting perhaps the reference to the behaviour of the 'sleep'. The nayika had a brief respite from her state of separation or viyoga, when in her dream she met Krsna. But alas, just then the condemnable (wretched) sleep simply went away. In this pictorial version we have to take note of the structural and figural scheme of the artist. Firstly, we observe that besides the protagonists i.e. hero (nayaka) and heroine (nayika), the artist brings in communicational situation between the narrator and the listeners. Here, the narrator is the nayika just just awakened from sleep, while attendant maids are responding with concern. The nayika's seated position in a bed canopied by a bower indicates her obvious sadness. In the adjacent space, the artist has constructed another 'bower' which is filled with a red background. Within this enclouser has been placed Krsna making love to Radha, as fantasized by Radha.
