Virahini nayika with birds
The nāyikā is supporting herself with the branch of a barely suggested tree. She is standing on her left leg, while the right leg is bent at the knee. However, the presence of the tree is implied which she needs to lean against, because of the character of her posture. Thus, in a way all the three female figures are based on the hoary concept of śalabhanjikā. The ancient tree-nymph pair is a fertility symbol and here the connotation will be an inevitable union of the lovers.
