Folio from Ramayana
This folio has certain pictorial similarities that triggered the notion of the manifestations of folkish versions of the several regional Rajasthani Schools. It has a brief inscription in a Hindi dialect also indicating the kind of listeners to which it is addressed. This inscription enables us to verify the theme which is that of Bharata and Satrughna travelling all the way to the forest to search for and meet Rama. While Rama and Bharata embrace each other, which is highlighted by placing them in the centre, Satrughna is waving a fly-whisk over them as an expression of reverence. Hanuman and a soldier are greeting each other in the foreground depicted in a rather comical manner. Sita on the left in standing position with folding hands, is delighted to witness the great moment.
