Chaurpanchasika Verse 25
The composition for verse 25 is adopted from that of verse 24, viz. pavilion containing the bed over which is hanging whisk the symbol of passion (in psycho-analytical parlance its connotation will be that of a phallic object in the midst of open space). Outside the pavilion is the seated pair of the male and female lovers who have changed positions, the nayaka is in the centre looking towards the nayika seated on the right hand side of the frame. Here, the artist is focusing on creating a suitable imagery for the nayika whose body is burning with the fire of intense passion. Instead of literally depicting the nayika clingng to Nayaka's body 'like a wet garment', the painter has invented a particular posture of the nayike who tightens her torso as she stiDisplayens her left arm and bends her right arm to bring it close to her breasts. Thus, the painter expresses nayika's burning body caused by separation. Here, a spatial composition emerges from the juxtaposition of closed interior space and open outside space.
